Who is responsible for your data

The Gillian McKeith Restaurant Guide is published by McKeith Research Ltd, which is the data controller for the personal data collected through this website. That means we decide why and how your data is used, and we are responsible for looking after it.

What we collect and why

  • Account details — name, email address and login credentials, used to create and secure your account (legal basis: performance of a contract).
  • Reviews and submissions — the content you choose to post, plus your name, used to publish and moderate genuine reviews (legal basis: legitimate interests).
  • Newsletter sign-ups — your email address, used to send you the newsletter you asked for (legal basis: consent; you can withdraw it any time).
  • Messages — anything you send us through the contact or claim forms, used to respond to you (legal basis: legitimate interests).
  • Usage and technical data — pages visited, approximate location, device type and IP address, used to keep the site secure, prevent fraud and understand which guides are useful (legal basis: legitimate interests).

Payment details are collected and processed by Paddle, our Merchant of Record, when you buy a paid service — we never see or store your card details.

Who we share it with

  • Service providers — hosting, analytics and support tools that help us run the site, bound by contract to protect your data.
  • Paddle — our Merchant of Record, for the sale of paid services, subscription management, payments, tax compliance and invoicing.
  • Professional advisers — such as accountants or lawyers, where needed.
  • Authorities — where the law requires it.

We do not sell your personal data to anyone.

International transfers

Some of our service providers process data outside the UK and EEA. Where that happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep it

We keep personal data only for as long as we need it — for as long as your account is active, as long as a review remains published, or as long as the law requires for accounting and tax records. When it is no longer needed, it is deleted or anonymised.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access your data, have it corrected or erased, restrict or object to its processing, ask for a portable copy, and withdraw consent at any time (for example, to unsubscribe from the newsletter). We respond to requests within one month. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) if you think we have got it wrong.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us through the contact page.

Security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures — encryption in transit, access controls and moderation — to keep your data safe.

Cookies

The site uses essential cookies to keep you signed in and make the site work, and privacy-respecting analytics to understand which pages are read. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. You can control cookies through your browser settings.
