Gillian McKeith's guide to healthy restaurants in Miami.

Written by Gillian McKeith

Miami is a city of extremes and the food follows suit. For every fried plate of nonsense there is a kitchen doing raw, cold pressed and properly plant based cooking with the sunshine and the produce to back it up. My job is to point you at the second sort.

Plant Miami leads the raw and gluten free end of things. PLANTA South Beach is the glossy one, all plant and rather good with it. Love Life Cafe in Wynwood feeds you comfort food without the animal products, Zak the Baker does slow fermented sourdough and vegetable plates, Della Bowls builds proper grain bowls from scratch daily, and Pura Vida Miami is my reliable stop for a bowl or salad wherever I happen to be in the city.

The test is the same in Florida as it is in Fife: purity, wholesomeness, organic wherever the chef can manage it, and an abundance of fresh fruits, vegetables, pulses, grains and seeds. Nobody has paid to appear here, and nobody could.

Eating well in Miami: your questions

What is the best vegan restaurant in Miami?
PLANTA South Beach if you want a proper dining room, Plant Miami if you want raw food and gluten free cooking done with care. Both put vegetables at the centre rather than apologising for them.
Where can I get a healthy lunch in Miami?
Della Bowls in Little Haiti or Pura Vida for a grain bowl or salad made that morning. Zak the Baker suits you if you want real bread with your vegetables instead of the fluffy white stuff.
Is there raw food in Miami?
Yes, and the climate makes it sensible. Plant Miami runs a strong raw and gluten free streak, and cold pressed juice is easy to find across Wynwood and the Beach.
Do I need to be vegan to use this Miami guide?
No. The guide is plant-forward, not plant-only. Order whatever suits you, the point is that the vegetables are worth ordering.
Can a Miami restaurant pay to be listed?
It cannot. I choose every entry myself on sourcing, freshness and how much genuine produce reaches the plate, and money has never come into it.

About the author

Written by Gillian McKeith

I'm Gillian McKeith: television presenter, creator of the global hit show You Are What You Eat, writer, nutritionist, and the editor behind this guide. Every Miami entry here is chosen and written by me. I judge kitchens on the things that actually matter: real ingredients, honest sourcing, vegetables cooked with care, and food you feel better for eating.

Nothing on this page is a paid placement. Restaurants cannot buy a recommendation, and any listing marked as sponsored is labelled as such. If a kitchen slips, it comes out of the guide.
