Gillian McKeith's guide to healthy restaurants in São Paulo.

Written by Gillian McKeith

Olá, Brasil. Many of you first met me through Você é o que você come! — A Dieta Mudará Sua Vida — my book that came out here in 2005, and I am thrilled it still means something to you. So here is the next chapter: the restaurants in São Paulo where I would happily send you to eat.

Brazil has some of the finest produce on the planet: Atlantic-forest fruits, roots, greens, beans by the sackful. Too many kitchens bury it under fried food and sugar. The places below do the opposite. They put the vegetables first and cook them properly.

Pinheiros and Vila Madalena are where I would start. Tuju grows much of its own produce in a garden behind the dining room. Quincho cooks vegetables with fire and fermentation, and the room is full of meat eaters. Tau Cozinha in Vila Madalena is fully plant-based, with no fake meat in sight.

Em português: estes são os restaurantes de São Paulo onde eu comeria com prazer. Ninguém paga para entrar neste guia. Comida de verdade, legumes no centro do prato, sem bobagem.

Eating well in São Paulo: your questions

Quais são os melhores restaurantes saudáveis em São Paulo?
My picks are Tuju, Quincho and Tau Cozinha. Tuju for a big night out, Quincho for brilliant vegetable cooking, and Tau Cozinha for an everyday plant-based meal.
Where should I eat vegetarian in São Paulo?
Quincho and Tau Cozinha are both fully vegetarian, and Tau is fully vegan. Tuju serves some meat and fish, but its menu is built around plants.
Is this the Gillian McKeith of Você é o que você come!?
It is me. The book and the television programme were about eating real food, and this guide is the same idea: restaurants where you can eat that way.
Do restaurants pay to be in the guide?
Never. Nobody buys a place here. If I would not send you there, it is not in.

About the author

Written by Gillian McKeith

I'm Gillian McKeith: television presenter, creator of the global hit show You Are What You Eat, writer, nutritionist, and the editor behind this guide. Every São Paulo entry here is chosen and written by me. I judge kitchens on the things that actually matter: real ingredients, honest sourcing, vegetables cooked with care, and food you feel better for eating.

Nothing on this page is a paid placement. Restaurants cannot buy a recommendation, and any listing marked as sponsored is labelled as such. If a kitchen slips, it comes out of the guide.
