Rainbow is unique in Cambridge serving only totally vegetarian food with choices for vegan and gluten-free diets. All menu choices are made on the premises from fresh ingredients daily, all sourced locally. No stocks, additives or preservatives. "Our mission is to make all our customers feel good about their food - not just vegetarians but everyone who appreciates delicious fresh food. We aim to break away from the traditional image and have drawn upon the international origins of our staff and customers over the years, as well as reflecting upon our own travelling experiences to create new recipes that excite and stimulate the taste buds." Much that is on the menu would not meet Gillian McKeith's standards but have a look, there will always be some items that do, more than enough to have some choice. Until Gillian starts her own chain of restaurants there will be very few restaurants if any that would have a complete menu all within her regime. The You Are What You Eat 2006 Series 3 Episode 16 "A health food waitress's poor eating habits worry her daughter" is of course the Rainbow Cafe in Cambridge. Kim Macdonald was the 17 stone waitress brought into the programme by her 16-year-old daughter, Hollie. She lost 3 1/2 stone in eight weeks. "Gillian catches Kim red handed, cramming a chocolate cake into her mouth at the back of the vegetarian restaurant. Appalled Gillian is gob smacked anyone can be tempted by junk surrounded by such delicious nutritious food all day." Try the Rainbow, see if you are tempted to stray from the healthy choices, either way you will thoroughly enjoy yourself!
